The East Perth resident has her work on show in the Year 12 Perspectives exhibition at the Art Gallery of WA.
Along with Dianella’s Elysse Yujnovich, Ms Ang is in the running for the Year 12 Perspectives’ people’s choice award.
Ms Ang (18) said her oil painting titled Haji Lane captured the essence of an eclectic shopping centre in Singapore.
‘I am originally from Singapore and Haji Lane used to be a really run-down shopping street,’ she said. ‘But now vintage and retro is in fashion and this provided a revival of Haji Lane. The street is quiet in the morning but bustling with activity at night, and I wanted to capture that in my painting.’
The former St Hilda’s student said she was studying architecture at Curtin University but admitted art was her passion.
‘Art was my favourite subject at school and I really love it,’ she said.
Art Gallery of WA director Stefano Carboni said 56 works were selected in the exhibition.
‘The works in this year’s exhibition explore a breadth of themes, such as personal identity, concern for our environment and society, and the journey to adulthood,’ he said.
