Each year since 2005, a group of students and teachers from the school have travelled to the south-east Asian country, renovating the buildings as well as teaching and playing with children and providing educational resources.

This year, 14 Year 10 students spent almost two weeks volunteering at Sunshine House, providing mobile phones, clothing and gifts to the staff and students.

Beliefs and values teacher Clare Hackett said the college’s fundraising program had also helped improve the school for Cambodian children.’To date we have helped cover the cost of a playground, the building of a boys’ dormitory, a well, a generator, an educational centre, a mini bus and a new kitchen,’ she said.

Principal Jenny Ethell said the trip, which included visits to the Killing Fields and Genocide Museum, helped highlight the importance of community service.
