Working with Santa Maria College students, they collected donations to buy school essentials such as drink bottles, lunch boxes and school bags for children in the care of not-for-profit organisation MercyCare.
The students spent a day assembling the packs, which were distributed to children before they started school.
Schools liaison officer Louise Mason said she remembered the excitement of getting new stationary supplies as a student.
“We just really want kids in care to feel that same excitement about going back to school,” Ms Mason said.
The students put together 40 back to school packs, seven pre-school packs and 10 childcare packs.
Mercedes student Marcella Morton said the packs would enhance the children’s educational experience.
“I hope they feel valued and special knowing that the packs have been made just for them,” Marcella said.
