SUSPENDED Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi and her fellow City of Perth councillors will stop getting paid within the fortnight after new laws were passed this week.

The Local Government Amendment (Suspension and Dismissal) Bill 2018 means council members who are suspended by the State Government can now have their pay suspended.

The law also allows the Minister for Local Government to suspend or dismiss individual council members.

Previously, council members were able to voluntarily stop receiving payment but the entitlements could not be suspended by the State Government.

The old legislation also meant the Minister was only able to take action against an entire council instead of individual members.

Local councils can now also recover any fees or allowances paid to a suspended member in advance.

The City of Perth’s elected officials were suspended by the State Government back in March.
