Suspicious death in Perth: police need help after man is found dead on Beaufort Street

POLICE have appealed to the public for information about the suspicious death of a homeless man in Perth.

Ian John Wilson’s body was found about 8am on Sunday on Beaufort Street with significant injuries.

Mr Wilson had been sleeping on the front steps of the ‘metrochurch’ building, on the corner of Beaufort and Aberdeen streets.

Police believe he had arrived at the church on Saturday evening, sometime between 8pm and midnight.

Mr Wilson was 178cm tall, had a medium build and was wearing a hooded jacket with grey, blue and green checks with the word Quicksilver written across the chest.

He was also wearing a black scarf, black jeans and white runners.

He was carrying a blue child’s doona that had images of police cars, a tow truck and fire engines, yellow stars and dots on the reverse side, and a blue sleeping bag.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Mills said the man travelled from Fremantle to Perth by train on Friday night.

“We urge anyone who saw or spoke to this man throughout Saturday to come forward,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mills said.

“We are also seeking anyone who may have driven through that location on Saturday night and may have dashcam or mobile phone vision to come forward.”

Anyone with information regarding this matter is urged to call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
