Swan River plane crash victims to be remembered at City of Perth Australia Day event

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

THE City of Perth will remember Peter Lynch and Endah Cakrawati on Australia Day.

Mr Lynch and Ms Cakrawati died on January 26 last year in front of crowds gathered on the Perth foreshore when the Grumman American Aviation Corp G-73 they were flying in crashed into the Swan River.

Mr Lynch, who was flying, and his passenger Ms Cakrawati were participating in the air show as part of the City of Perth Australia Day Skyworks event.

In response to the incident, the City cancelled this year’s air show.

A City of Perth spokesman said the local government would acknowledge the couple during a radio broadcast at this year’s celebrations.

He said a pre-recorded message, scripted by City staff, would be played ahead of the Skyworks.

“As part of the 2018 program, the City of Perth will remember Peter Lynch and Endah Cakrawati, who tragically passed away in the fatal plane accident last year,” he said.

“This will take place on Mix 94.5’s broadcast before the 2018 Skyworks begins.”

The final report on the investigation into the crash by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau is due to be released this month.

The last investigation update on the organisation’s website on December 22, 2017, noted the investigation was “continuing”.

The update noted that the investigation had “completed the information-gathering phase and the team is engaged in detailed analysis of material”.
