THE Court Hotel in Northbridge will hold WA’s first same-sex marriages in a pop-up event in January.

The venue announced today it had formed a partnership with the Perth Pop Up Wedding Collective – a group of local wedding suppliers.

The special event will kick off at midnight on January 9, when same-sex marriage will be officially legalised.

Telethon chief executive Steve Mummery, who has recently become a marriage celebrant, is among those from the collective planning the event.

Marriage celebrant Dru Soltys said he was looking forward to the event.

“We owe it to Perth’s gay community to come together, as the leaders in the wedding industry and make this day as incredible as we can,” he said.

“Everyone that I’ve spoken to has put aside commercial differences and embraced this event.”

Hundreds of couples are expected to express their interest in the event.
