THIRD year UWA medical student Ziwei Mao (19) was one of the first residents to move in to Campus Perth last month.

The Kalgoorlie-bred teenager has also been appointed a Residential Advisor (RA) at the purpose-built accommodation that will eventually house 700 domestic and international students.

Three retail stores, including an Asian grocer and restaurant and bar, will open on the ground level next month.

Campus Perth general manager Bram Newbold said he expected to see an increase in foot traffic around Campus Perth with students

living in residence and those living and working in the area.

“We’re committed to creating a vibrant environment and adding to the established food and cultural scene in Northbridge,” he said.

Mr Mao said the diversity within the accommodation would benefit his medical career.

“In terms of my future as a doctor, the experience helps me to understand and be more culturally aware,” he said.

“Even on the RA team there’s me who can speak Chinese and people from Singapore and Finland.”

Mr Mao said the social events and location of Campus Perth were highlights so far.

“There’s always something on if students want to get involved,” he said.

“The location is fantastic. We’re close to the city which is really convenient for shopping and entertainment.”
