Too many lodgings, say residents

Developer Domination Homes wants to demolish the building and construct 18 multiple dwellings at the site.

Initially, the business wanted 13 multiple dwellings, which the City of Vincent approved last year.

Brett Thompson, who lives across from the hall, said he and fellow neighbours believed an additional five lodgings would cause overcrowding on the site, making for an unsightly streetscape and an influx of traffic.

‘There is a school at the end of the street and this corner (Hobart and Shakespeare) has become quite dangerous and they want to put at least 18 cars a day in and out of here,’ he said.

‘We’re not against the development, just against the number of dwellings’
