THE two men killed in a gyrocopter crash at Forrest Beach, near Capel, yesterday were a father and son from the Perth metropolitan area.

The men were aged 18 and 51.

The small aircraft plunged into shallow water near the shoreline of Forrest Beach, about 200km south of Perth, about 2.20pm yesterday.

The craft was privately owned.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

A gyrocopter aircraft is also known as an autogyro or a gyroplane.

They can only seat two people and are often homemade from kits.

CASA will look into the accident, but may not need to conduct a full investigation if the police probe is conclusive.
