It acts as a gesture of thanks from the Vietnamese community to West Australians, as well as a striking tribute to the Vietnamese boat people who died at sea.

‘The monument will stand against time as a testimony of our gratitude towards multicultural Australia for welcoming us into this great nation,’ Anh Nguyen, of the Vietnamese Community in Australia, WA Chapter, said.

Perth artist Coral Lowry created the stainless steel monument, working with Dr Nguyen and the Vietnamese community.
