SINGING at a Melbourne Cup event next week is more than a gig for talent show finalist Sydnee Carter who will perform to support her friend with leukaemia.
All funds raised at the annual luncheon on November 4 will go to CanTeen, an organisation helping young people with the emotional and physical impacts of cancer.
The X Factor finalist and fellow Sacred Heart College Year 11 student Oceane Bourgault met on the bus from school two years ago.
When Oceane was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukaemia in January last year, Sydnee said it shocked the school community.
‘It was quite confronting for our whole year group when we found out,’ she said. ‘We all tried really hard to fund raise for her, we had a bake sale to raise money.’
During her intensive chemotherapy CanTeen became a lifeline for Oceane.
‘They offer counselling, make sure you’re healthy and have a healthy mind, they have group sessions, camps and social activities,’ she said.
‘I don’t mind talking about it; it’s my life now,’ she said.
The three-course lunch will be at the Parmelia Hilton, Perth and include a fashion parade, best hat and outfit competition and raffles.
Tickets are $155 per person or $1500 for a table of 10. Visit www.momentumwf.com.au.
