A WEST Perth luxury boutique hotel will close on December 16 before opening as five star aged-care accommodation.

The Richardson Hotel and Spa will undergo a complete transformation as part of its conversion to a 92-unit facility after it was purchased by aged-care provider Oryx Communities.

Each of the eight levels will accommodate up to 12 residents who will share a common room, dining room, sitting areas and Kings Park views.

All rooms will be refurbished and bathrooms will be upgraded, which is expected to be completed by July, 2018.

Managing Director Nita Peploe said the facility would be the first of its kind in Australia.

“We are creating an experience that our clients have long been demanding,” she said.

“We understand that people are looking for accommodation that is centrally located, well-appointed and well serviced.”

Women in Australia have a longer life expectancy than men and so are more likely to need aged care support.

Accordingly, 2 in 3 people using aged care services are women.
