Woman injured after ‘beer bottle attack’

A WOMAN has been charged after she allegedly smashed a beer bottle on the head of an elderly woman in East Perth last night.

Police said a 79-year-old frail woman was watering the communal garden of an apartment complex on Goderich Street when a 47-year-old woman approached her at 6.15pm.

It is alleged the woman shouted abuse at the elderly woman and then struck her head with a beer bottle, causing a deep laceration behind her ear.

The victim fell to the ground and it is further alleged the woman punched her several times to the head and body.

The victim was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where she received medical treatment.

The 47-year-old woman of no fixed address is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today on the charges of unlawful assault with a circumstance of aggravation, trespass and assaulting a public officer.
