Councils Need to Change Focus

AS a ratepayer, I do not like to see our council wasting time and resources on the vote to abolish DAPs.

From the way this issue is reported, you would be led to believe these panels are made up of only unelected members.

What is not reported is that they also comprise some elected councillors, as well as qualified industry experts.

Our councillors are elected on issues such as road safety, community events and the creation of parks.

I believe most councillors are unqualified to decide on, for example, architectural design issues.

Council should focus instead on designing sound planning policy to guide sensible development.
