I APPLAUD those volunteering to help raise funds for animals in need (Time to shake a tin, Guardian Express, September 29).
However, the animals most in need are farmed animals.
Unlike our pampered pets, most of these animals never know a day of joy in their entire lives. Imprisoned inside cramped, barren cages and pens they are denied sunshine, fresh air and space to exercise. Their lives and deaths are terrifying and violent.
The good news is that we can help them instantly simply by refusing to buy animal products.
