I observed people glance side ways at him but move on. I was shocked to see the indifference and lack of care. I had read of incidents such as this happening but never thought I would witness it.

What is wrong with these people? Have they become so desensitised or do they just not care?

It took me a couple of minutes to get through the lights, turn the car around and still no one had come to this man’s aid. I assisted him to his feet. He didn’t appear to have any injuries and declined the suggestion that I call an ambulance.

Only then did a cafe staff member come out and ask if I was all right; not the indigenous, cleanly dressed man who had been lying on the footpath. I’m shocked at the lack of care and hope those who did walk/drive past this man feel a sense of shame.
