Opinion: Optus stadium signals end to picnics in park

OPTUS Stadium means the end for families in the park.

The first sports event at Optus stadium brought with it a complete closure of roads and carparks around Crown Resort and Burswood Park.

A beautiful Sunday afternoon would usually draw thousands of people to enjoy the river, gardens, parks and barbecue.

The entire Burswood park area was deserted with a total of maybe 100 people present, because there is nowhere to park anymore: all roads are closed and many carparks have been taken over by Transperth who had (conservatively) over 200 busses parked there, many with engines running.

Yet we saw buses leave for the city around 7.10pm with barely six people on board.
