Service’s end will

Janice TeoEastern Reporter

I AM writing to express my disappointment at Bayswater shire terminating its Meals on Wheels service in July.

This service delivers a hot meal each day to residents, mostly elderly. The service is being taken over by Stirling shire, the meals will be delivered two days a week chilled or frozen.

Quite a few of the residents are sight-impaired and frail and are unable to use a microwave.

Surely, the small amount of money Bayswater will save is minimal when compared to the residents’ wellbeing.

The Meals on Wheels division has been going for many years with lots of volunteers and the staff and co-ordinator are all very friendly.

The service has been so well run and as a volunteer, I am very sad to see it go, especially when the most vulnerable in our community are affected.
