I think the Public Transport Authority head honcho was being too clever by half when he said the City of Perth was told William Street was too narrow for buses in both directions.
That arrangement has not existed for decades. I cannot see how it followed not to leave the existing routes as they were i.e. one-way into city down William Street and out on Beaufort Street.
I have an elderly couple who are regulars at the Mustang Bar and who use both train and buses to travel to Northbridge.
They said they were on a bus travelling into town and yelled out to the driver when he didn’t go down William Street, to which he replied he no longer could.
So much for letting their customers know what is going on.
I doubt any of the traders see turning left from William into James as equal to being able to turn right after that was stopped.
