I AM disappointed that so many are keen to pass judgment based on nothing more than the hearsay of a few individuals.
I ask that before you listen blindly to the spin put on the events at the Vincent council meeting on July 22, you watch the council-recorded footage of the meeting at http:// youtu.be/sSr1qtde-MA
At no time did I denigrate any staff or council member. Neither did I use foul language, threaten or abuse anyone, say I did not want the bike plan nor that I did not like cyclists.
What I did do was label as “stupid” the table of community consultation comments in the agenda, which I still maintain to be “stupid” and defy anyone after reading it to claim it is well laid-out and easy to understand.
This, as I clearly can be heard stating in the footage, is my opinion. In a democratic society, I am entitled to my opinion and in public speaking time at a council meeting I have three minutes to state my opinion.
For the mayor to tell me to be quiet and sit down and berate me for denigrating a staff member, which I clearly did not do, is unacceptable to me.
Just because he may not have liked what I was saying, does not give him the right to silence me.
I chose to stand up for my democratic right and to protest peacefully by refusing to leave council chambers, knowing and fully accepting that the consequence of this would result in council calling the police.
If after watching what really happened you still believe that I am the one who was out of line and with no regard for democracy, then I will gladly accept your opinion and respect your right to have one.
