HARCOURTS WA has invited the public to help break the silence around violence during its Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event in support of White Ribbon Australia.
Through its charitable foundation, the Harcourts Foundation, the organisation is holding the third annual nationwide event to help raise awareness and funds for White Ribbon Australia’s work in ending men’s violence against women.
“While violence is experienced by both men and women, most domestic violence victims in Australia are women and the violence is most likely to be perpetrated by a man,” Harcourts WA Foundation ambassador Adrienne Musca said.
“Devastatingly, over 12 months on average one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of intimate partner violence.”
In 2015 and 2016, more than 800 Harcourts staff, family, friends and supporters across Australia “walked a mile” in women’s heels to show solidarity and raise awareness, setting new White Ribbon records for a community fundraising activity.
The Harcourts Foundation has raised nearly $300,000 for White Ribbon since 2013 and this year hopes to break its fundraising record. Funds raised will support White Ribbon’s Breaking the Silence primary prevention initiatives in primary and secondary schools.
The Walk a Mile event will be held on Friday, September 1, starting 11am at Elizabeth Quay Bell Tower area, with the $25 registration going towards White Ribbon Australia.
