MAYLANDS was the top- performing local suburb over the festive season, with 12 sales in the four weeks to January 7, according to the latest data from REIWA.

Professionals Michael Johnson & Co director Ben Ryder said the area was particularly popular with professional couples, some with the intention of starting a family, upgrading from a villa or apartment within the area or nearby.

“They recognise the value Maylands provides for couples and families with the many parks and river nearby,” he said.

“They can also have a great lifestyle with the rejuvenated cafe strip on Eighth Avenue and Railway Parade; plus the city is a stone’s throw away via train, car or bike paths.”

Mr Ryder said houses on some land in the $500,000 to $700,000 price range were in demand.

“People are buying homes, often two-storey, on 250sq m to 450sq m blocks,” he said.

“They may be in need of bit of a tidy up and rejuvenation, but are not so much a renovation project.”

Mr Ryder expects the popularity of Maylands to continue across the year.

“Buyers can see the area will continue to grow, being so close to the city, with quick access to the airport and a huge improvement in lifestyle,” he said.
