BARBRA Streisand sang “memories light the corners of my mind” and memories also fill the corners of this home.

It was built in the 1920s for Albert White, a local baker who had served in World War I and when Margaret Woolfe’s family bought the home in 1972, the old stable for the cart horse was still in place against the fence along the back lane.

The home in the 1920s.

“Our previous home was a very old weatherboard and iron home at 57 View Street, North Perth,” she said.

“My father was attracted to the style of this home, its sturdy construction, the size of the land and proximity to Mt Hawthorn Primary school, bus service and shopping centre.”

Mrs Woolfe has many happy memories of her time growing up in the house with her brother including lazy summer school holidays, swimming in the pool or just spending time with their parents.

“The front veranda, which is elevated from the street, was a place where we would enjoy a cool breeze or just escape to read a book or chat outside,” she said.

The home was also the place for many New Year parties and birthdays with friends.

“The house was absolutely packed on those occasions,” she said. “I also celebrated my engagement party there in the 1980s.”

While it was the venue for numerous gatherings it was also very much a family home and Mrs Woolfe’s special memories revolved around the kitchen and lounge room.

“We all came together as a family in those two rooms,” she said.

“We enjoyed living in the home and my children also look at it as their second home, as they spent many happy hours there with their grandparents.”

The home is now ready for a new family to enjoy its history and create their own.

It has grown and evolved over the years to suit each generation.

The layout includes a lounge and dining room, sun room, kitchen/meals area, two bedrooms, a bathroom and an annexe/granny flat with bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living area.

Its character features, including timber flooring, ceiling roses and original clay tiles, can be restored to their former glory, while the home can be extended and remodelled to create a more modern residence.

It is on a corner site, comprising two lots for a total land area of 951sq m, so development is also a possibility.
