Non-surgical options changing the game on spot-fat reduction

Prestige PublishingSponsored

AS little as 10 years ago, surgical liposuction was the only answer to spot fat reduction – a procedure many found too daunting.

So those with stubborn fat pockets, such as double chins, muffin tops or jelly bellies, basically had to lump it. No amount of diet and exercise could remove them, only shrink them in proportion with the rest of the body.

Now, however, there is a range of minimally invasive, non-surgical options for permanent spot fat reduction and body contouring.

Dr Keturah (Kit) Hoffman is an experienced cosmetic and vascular physician of 30 years, a pioneer of cosmetic medicine in WA.

At her Restoration Clinic in Mt Hawthorn, she says the latest generation truSculpt ID radio frequency (RF) body-sculpting device has been achieving remarkable results.

“TruSculpt ID is a non- invasive technology that delivers targeted, repeatable and uniform sculpting of problem areas,” Dr Hoffman says.

“The ID has six hands- free hand pieces, all or any of which are strapped in

“In treatment, we can control the speed of the heating, but most people find it like hopping into a hot shower and adapt to the temperature well.

“Afterwards, they may be a bit red, but this disappears in 5-20 minutes.

“The fat does seem less flabby immediately, but will take up to three months to be properly reduced. The overlying skin tightens as well and appears smoother within a month. Many patients have returned wearing slinky clothes they said they couldn’t wear before and say they are no longer scared to get into swimmers.”

Dr Hoffman has used RF technology since the 1990s, for treating skin problems and now fat reduction.

“RF has a good safety profile and is well researched,” she says.

“Among other RF treatments I do is Pelleve, a skin-tightening machine that can reduce lines and wrinkles and diminish skin folds – for instance, reduce hooded eyes and help you find that eyeshadow area again!

“Our Surgitron RF device can remove moles and blemishes without cutting or stitching, leaving only a graze where the mole used to be and generally heal without a scar.”

Other skin rejuvenation treatments on offer include skin needling, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Bloomea, an exfoliating and skin polishing device to boost skin texture and tone.

Dr Hoffman has a specialty in non-surgical sclerotherapy for reducing or eliminating unsightly leg veins.

She and her team are well regarded for administering dermal fillers and muscle relaxant injections to minimise lines and wrinkles and contour areas of the face and neck.

To help give patients the results they want, while managing realistic expectations, Dr Hoffman says a practitioner must have exceptional training combined with artistic flair, a perceptive nature and good communication skills.

“Most of all, there needs to be a genuine desire to help people become the best versions of themselves,” she says.
