Cricket: Mt Lawley-Inglewood thumped by Floreat

Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

MT LAWLEY-Inglewood Cricket Club’s one day side was on the receiving end of its second-worst loss of the season against ladder-leader Floreat-Hellenic on Saturday.

Floreat’s attack strangled the Panthers, with opener Matthew Nowotny-Walsh bowling six maidens to take 1-5 from eight overs.

Nowotny-Walsh was ably supported by Jack Martin (2-8 from six overs), Tom Miller (1-3 from 4 overs), and James Flexman (2-7 from four overs) as the Panthers’ were restricted to just 51 runs.

Mt Lawley-Inglewood captain Richie Logan was the only Panthers batsman to reach double figures, with 10 runs.

The lone boundary of the innings was hit by Will Crocker, who was dismissed for four.

Edward Adcock led the chase with an innings Thomas Hobbes would have described as ‘nasty, brutish and short’, mauling Logan’s two overs for 40 runs before the legspinner trapped him lbw for 43.

Matthew Parella took 1-8 from his three overs in an admirable demonstration of pace bowling but Floreat reached the target in just 5.1 overs, finishing on 2-54.
