CHRIS McWhirter has gone back-to-back winning the Gold Medal at the 2016 Golf Croquet Nationals for the second consecutive year.

The Forrest Park Croquet Club member played off against Victoria and Queensland after the three states finished in a three-way tie following the round robin.

It then came down to WA and Victoria, a replay of last year’s gold medal final, with McWhirter winning 7-6 at Cambridge Croquet Club.

McWhirter has won the gold medal four times since 2012.

Golf croquet is a short version of croquet, similar to Twenty20 cricket.

“I’ve been playing since 2000 when I was in my early 20s,” McWhirter said.

“Within two years I was in the state team.”

McWhirter is also captain of the WA team that is contesting the State Shield over the next few days.
