Fremantle quick destroys Mt Lawley at Stevens Reserve

MT LAWLEY has fallen further into the abyss after a devastating seven-wicket spell from Fremantle’s Chris Chellew on the first day of their Premier Cricket clash on Saturday.

The port boy’s quick balls were unplayable as he secured figures of 7-3 to help bowl Mount Lawley out for just 57 at Stevens Reserve after the visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

Callum Taylor (20) and Shane Rakich (23) were the only batsman to show any resistance, however after their departure, the side lost 7-16.

Fremantle built a lead of 103, declaring at 2-160 after 38 overs and having the visitors 2-45 at the close of play.

James Newnham is 25 not out and will need a big score next Saturday if his side is to avoid an embarrassing outright loss.

Youngster Corey Evans (7no) will also be at the crease when play resumes, with Taylor and Olly Mouchemore the men out.
