Heat prove far

Fever led 12-9 at the first break thanks to several intercepts from captain Ashleigh Brazill in wing defence but the Firebirds took control in the third quarter with the visitors showing their strength at both ends of the court.

Queensland's Laura Geitz kept Caitlin Bassett to 35 goals and Romelda Aiken's 3cm height advantage over Fever's Erena Mikaere helped her nail 47 goals.

Competition was fierce on court where there were 10 Australian Diamonds squad members and two invitees.

At half time with just a point in it, Fever coach Stacey Rosman swapped Brazill in to centre, Shae Brown to wing defence and Mikaere was back in the mix replacing April Letton in goal keeper.

The Firebirds took their lead out to six points during the third quarter but Fever kept the difference to three going in to the final term.

Queensland maintained their lead in the last quarter, taking the Challenge Trophy away from the home side.

Fever have a bye this weekend and play the Melbourne Vixens in Melbourne on May 17.
