SEVEN West Australian’s have scored a position on Netball Australia’s 2016 Australian Under-19 and Under-20 squads.
Midcourter Jessica Anstiss, defenders Natalie Bright and Annika Lee-Jones, and shooter Sophie Garbin were named in the Under-20 squad, with Helen Taylor, Phoebe Wilcox and Under-17 National Netball Championships MVP Olivia Lewis in the Under-19s.
Their selection comes following the Under-17 and Under-19 National Netball Championships in Perth, and the Under-20 National Netball Championships in Tasmania earlier this year.
The Under-20 side will contest an international series against teams from New Zealand and England in Canberra in August, while the Under-19 squad will attend a four-day training camp between June 28 and July 1 in conjunction with a Netball Australia specialist `Talls’ camp at the Centre of Excellence.
Netball WA chief executive Simon Taylor said he was proud to see WA so strongly represented.
“It’s testament to these athletes hard work prior and outstanding performances during the recent National Netball Championships,” he said.
“To be named in any national squad is an outstanding achievement and I’m sure this is an opportunity each of these players will take full advantage of.”
The Australian Under-20 squad has been selected with a view towards next year’s Netball World Youth Cup in Africa.
