NPL WA round 13: competition reaches halfway point with host of teams chasing top spot

Staff WriterEastern Reporter

EXPECTATIONS are high heading into round 13 of the National Premier Leagues WA as teams reach the halfway point of the competition and look to close in on the top of the league ladder.

Following a win over Cockburn City last week, Perth SC coach Ramon Falzon is cautious going up against ECU Joondalup at ECU Joondalup Football Stadium tomorrow.

“I feel confident on one hand because last week we played really well and the performance was quite good,” he said.

“Every time we pushed forward we looked dangerous. At the same time we’re a bit wary because ECU have quite a strong forward line.

“Cockburn play football well but don’t have that player up top that can score goals. ECU on the other hand, have the three up front that are very dangerous.”

Falzon said he wants his team to back up their performance from last week.

“I think the majority of teams, with the exception of Floreat, have been quite inconsistent. So now that we’re at the half-way mark leading into the next round, I want to start getting a bit more consistent with our results.”

ECU coach Dale McCulloch said his team wants to stay as close to the front-runners as possible.

“Perth are always a tough challenge throughout the years, even when I was a player,” he said.

“They’re always a hard team to come up against and Ramon’s got them well structured and they don’t lose many goals.

“We’re at home so we’ll be having a right go and hopefully put on good entertainment for the crowd.”

In other matches, Cockburn City will host Perth Glory at Dalmatinac Park, Bayswater City face Stirling Lions at Macedonia Park and Joondalup United take on Armadale at Percy Doyle Reserve.

League leaders Floreat Athena will push to maintain its lead when it travels to Inglewood Stadium to play Inglewood United, while Subiaco take on Sorrento at Rosalie Park.

Mandurah City looks for its first win of the season when it meets Balcatta at Peelwood Reserve.
