Premier Cricket: Mt Lawley look to build on sensational end to 2016

Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

MOUNT LAWLEY Cricket Club will look to build on momentum gained from a remarkable outright win before the Christmas break when Premier Cricket resumes this weekend.

The Hawks host back-to-back one-day fixtures at Breckler Park on Saturday and Sunday against University and Joondalup from 11am.

Mount Lawley were winless in their opening seven fixtures, before defeating Rockingham-Mandurah at Lark Hill by claiming 10 wickets in the final session.

The side could also be boosted by the availability of Perth Scorchers batsman Michael Klinger.

English import Callum Taylor captained the side for the first time in the win over the Mariners and led from the front, with seven wickets and a brilliant 212 with the bat.

Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Shane Rakich should be back to lead the side against University, who have had one win this season.

James Newnham will come up against his former club on the Sunday, with Joondalup sitting third on the table.
