The East Perth resident (24) was enlisted by the club to help increase membership of people aged under 30.

‘The club was concerned about its longevity and so enlisted myself and Trent Lister to help recruit younger members,’ he said.

‘Golf can be a very expensive sport as you have to buy the equipment and then club fees can be anywhere from $3000 to $7000.’

With some clever marketing strategies including waiving the membership fee, the pair were able to recruit 75 young people last year, with about 150 people now aged under 30 at the club.

For these efforts and organising social events, Mr Hildebrand has been nominated rookie volunteer in the Ultimate Volunteer Reward.

‘Volunteering in this role really hasn’t been too hard as it is about two hours work a week,’ he said.

Mr Hildebrand said he liked being able to help at the club where he spent most weekends.

‘I play golf most Saturdays and every second Sunday,’ he said.

‘Mostly it is relaxing but, the way I play, it can be frustrating.’
