Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

PERTH-Bayswater Rugby Club’s Premier Grade side turned in a strong performance on the weekend but fell short of its first win for the season.

The Numbats lost 24-15 to Associates despite a spirited effort at Allen Park.

Associates are in the top four and Perth-Bayswater in the cellar but the game did not play out as expected, with the Numbats giving the home team a fight.

Iona Vili scored two tries for Perth-Bayswater, with Dylan Parsons converting one and kicking a penalty goal.

The Numbats are now 0-7 but in recent weeks have been very competitive against highly rated opponents.

On form, they will fancy their chances for a breakthrough win next weekend against 7th-placed Cottesloe.

In the reserves, the Numbats drew Associates 27-27, leaving them with two wins, three losses and two draws for the season to date.
