Rugby union: Perth-Bayswater suffers opening round loss in Premier Grade

Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

PERTH-Bayswater Rugby Union Club got off to a rough start in the Premier Grade season over the weekend, with a 32-12 loss to Wanneroo.

The 20-point loss left the Numbats at the bottom of the ladder after round 1.

After the heavy loss at Kingsway Reserve, Perth-Bayswater will look forward to returning home in round 2, hosting Nedlands at Pat O’Hara Reserve at 3.30pm this Saturday.

Nedlands pack plenty of firepower and pose a tough challenge, coming off an agonising 34-32 loss to Wests Scarborough.

In the reserves, Perth-Bayswater handed Wanneroo a fearful hiding, running out 66-20 winners.

The huge win was not enough to secure top spot as Kalamunda beat UWA 56-0, but marked a very promising start to the year for the reserves.
