CHILEAN Primera Division side Audax Italiano will play a pre-season friendly against Perth Glory at Perth Oval on July 12.

The four-time Chilean champions will travel to Australia this July for friendlies against Newcastle Jets (July 8) and Glory.

Perth Glory chief executive Peter Filopoulos said the club was delighted to welcome a Chilean first division side to the west.

“Perth Glory don’t have many opportunities in the off-season to participate in friendly matches and to be able to play a game against a quality international team such as Chilean giant Audax Italiano is a very welcome opportunity,” he said.

“Audax Italiano may not be a household name in Australia, however they are a very competitive club playing in a challenging 16 team league, so this represents a unique opportunity for us to be exposed to and interact with a club that we would not otherwise encounter.

“This match will take place during the second week of our pre-season and will most likely provide our members and fans with their first opportunity to witness our new recruits in the flesh against a quality opponent.”

Audax Italiano chief executive Lorenzo Antillo believed the South Americans would provide the Glory with a stern test and should not be underestimated.

“It’s not very often that a South American club visits Australia, so we want to be able to open this experience up to as many people as possible, the quality of our team and players will surprise them”, he said.

‘Los Tanos’ hail from La Florida, just 20km southeast of the Chilean capital Santiago, and are recognised as one of the premier development clubs in Chile.

The club boasts a number of current and former Chilean internationals.

Its 2017-18 Chilean Primera División Apertura campaign is scheduled to start in late July, meaning the match will serve as crucial preparation for both teams leading into their respective seasons.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Wednesday May 31 through Ticketmaster.
