Denise S. CahillEastern Reporter

THE semi-finals of the men’s State League tennis produced scintillating games with Mosman Park causing a 3-0 upset over minor premiers Kings Park Tennis Club.

Big serving world number 191 Brydan Klein for Mosman Park enjoyed the fast grass and muscled his way past Jake Robinson.

Wins by tour player Gavin Van Peperzeel, 6-3 6-2 over Sam Ashendon, and talented 18-year-old Tom Hann, 6-4 6-2 over Ben Dallinger, left Mosman Park’s Brenton Bacon to grab a set to get the job done.

In the other semi-final, Hensman Park continued its winning run with a 3-1 win over last year’s winners Cottesloe with Hensman Park’s Rhys Johnson, Zach Itzstein and Marco Comuzzo securing straight set wins.

It now hosts a dangerous Mosman Park at home next week in what will be a spirited final of one of the best years of the competition.

In the women’s State League, former world number 8 Alicia Molik led Cottesloe to a 3-1 win against North Beach and now face last year’s champions Blue Gum in the final.

Blue Gum is hoping for back-to-back championships having despatched City Beach easily and will host the final starting at 1pm and a large crowd is expected.

Promising juniors fought out the junior State League finals this weekend with Alexander Park, who dominated for most of the season, defeating Hensman Park in the boys under-16 but the Hensman Park under-16 girls made amends winning against Blue Gum.
