West Cycle WA is up for the community event of the year award for Bike Week and HBF is up for the professional event of the year award for its Run for a Reason fundraiser.

Commitment to participation award finalist Coolbinia Junior Bombers Football Club’s Starkick Program is an opportunity for children of all ability levels, including those with disability, to play football.

Now in its second year, there are close to 50 Starkick young footballers from all over Perth, which includes children with autism, cerebral palsy and vision impairment.

Finalists were selected from 70 applications.

Department of Sport and Recreation Director General Ron Alexander said the strength of the entrants was impressive.

“The awards highlight the breadth of the work which goes on in our industry from the events which we can see and participate in through to what happens behind the scenes to make them happen,” he said.

“They also highlight the excellent work, innovation and enthusiasm which is going on in the sport and recreation industry at the moment in Western Australia.”

Across nine categories, the finalists are also vying for the overall Minister’s award for industry excellence with $10,000 prize money.

Winners will be announced at a breakfast event on July 26.
