Comedy Gold: Hawaiian comedian steals the show in Kalamunda

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

DIMINUTIVE Kahua Jackson delivered a barrel of laughs in Comedy Gold on tour at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre.

The funny woman from Hawaii stole the limelight with her self-deprecating humour in a one-night only show on August 25.

A regular in comedy clubs and festivals around Australia, she had the audience onside from the get go with her well-prepared act and wry take on life.

Jackson was the only female stand-up in a night of comedy dubbed the best of Adelaide Fringe and hosted by Kel Balnaves.

Fringe regular Rich Naberhood overplayed jokes about the commonly-used abbreviation of his name, but reprieved himself with a side-splitting routine of men on the dance floor routine that was pure gold.

The audience was hungry for Friday-night laughs and rallied behind the headline act Ben Darsow, but the man said to make comedy look effortless seemed distracted.

He appeared to rely heavily on improv for the duration of his performance.

On September 30, The Voice TV talent show finalists Paula Parore and Clay Darius will cover Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder in A Night of Respect & Wonder at Kalamunda Arts Centre.

The soulful R&B singers formed Avida in 2014 and recently launched an album.
