GREENMOUNT’S Marloo Theatre is staging a musical play by Perth music and film teacher John Beaton.
Directed by Neroli Sweetman, the play – 1916: A Love Story – is a tale about Rose and Paddy.
Rose lives in Glen Forrest and Paddy is training with the AIF at Blackboy Hill.
They meet in secret among the spring wildflowers at John Forrest National Park.
The story – a play with music and popular songs from 100 years ago – is about the women at home like Julia, whose son is fighting in France for the British Empire.
And the men at the Midland Railway Workshops who were bitterly divided about the upcoming vote about conscription.
Should men be made to go to war, or should they be volunteers?
Mr Beaton is a former councillor and Mundaring Shire president and a former Swanbourne High School teacher who went on to lecture in film and screenwriting at Curtin University.
The play runs until December 8.
Tickets for the show are available from MarlooTheatre.com.au.
