WRITING a moment into a song is a skill that comes naturally to indie singer-songwriter Chloe Buchanan, a 20-year-old talent from Gooseberry Hill selected to perform at an event for ‘natural born artists’.

Buchanan will play RADIANT on September 14 at the Rosemount Hotel, an event for emerging artists to be seen and heard presented by the RAW network.

“I will write a mini song for each of the first 20 people who buy a ticket selecting me as their artist,” Buchanan said.

“The event will showcase live bands and music artists, as well as visual artists, fashion designers and film, so for anyone even a smidge creative, this event is not to be missed.

“The first 20 people will also receive a little video of me singing their song,” the former Helena College student said.

People who buy a ticket will be asked to comment on what they would like their song to be about and send their ticket confirmation to Buchanan via www.facebook.com/chloebuchananmusic/.

The WAAPA contemporary music graduate will perform with her band, which has Rory Shepherd on lead guitar, Regan Dale on drums and Kyle Lockyer on bass.

Buchanan described her music as a blend of alternative and indie-pop sounds and said she used music as an outlet for raw expression and emotion.

“I’m inspired by my experiences and regularly write about people and situations in my life. I look to songwriters such as Nick Murphy aka Chet Faker, Tracey Chapman and Ben Howard for inspiration; people who I believe have used music to transform their personal journey into a universal story,” she said.

RAW showcase director Laura Fairclough said the network showcased about 250 new artists in Perth each year in categories such as music, visual art, fashion and film.

“In terms of our selection process, artists can either submit work for review or through our directors approaching and selecting the best in emerging talent to showcase,” she said.

Buchanan regularly gigs around Perth and will perform solo at Beautfort Street Songwriters Club on August 3.
