Principal Paul Larkin said BouncED is a one-of-a-kind free program, providing students with a single portal to a host of literacy and numeracy providers aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

Children are able to access the portal in school or at home via portable electronic devises, such as tablets, as well as standard computers.

‘The BouncED trial is currently being assessed with a view to rolling the program out in 2015/16 to every school in Australia at no cost to schools or parents,’ Mr Larkin said.

‘There has been significant interest in the program from various South-East Asian countries, such as Indonesia and Malaysia, to provide BouncED to their schools.’

By Term 2, the state-of-the-art program had received more than 144,000 hits from the 16 trial primary schools across Australia, including Glen Forrest, Parkerville, Gidgegannup and Mt Helena.

‘This clearly demonstrates the ‘proof of concept’ required to take the trial to a full, nationwide implementation,’ Mr Larkin said.

The learning portal currently offers free access to providers such as Ziptales, Sunshine Online, Study Ladder, Zoowhiz and Britannica Schools, essentially saving schools thousands of dollars in annual subscription fees to online education providers.

‘This year alone, BouncED has saved our school and parents about $27,000 because we would normally have to pay for these online learning programs,’ Mr Larkin said.

Teachers are using BouncED, built by Fairpoint, to allocate activities and resources from providers for use as class-based tasks and also for homework tasks.

Mr Larkin said students at Mundaring Primary have achieved a 100 per cent participation rate through the use of the school’s enhanced iT program and have demonstrated excellent improvements in literacy and numeracy testing across the school.

The Members Alliance Education Foundation is funding the trial.

Mr Larkin has been instrumental in the development of the program through the provision of educational and iT support, together with training guidance and advice given to schools across the country.
