All Aboard introduces Ashley, the steam engine hero of the stories, and his railway mates.

The face of Ashley in the book was inspired by Gould's three-year-old grandson Joel.

"What makes All Aboard special is that its hero, the other characters and the setting, are all real," he said.

Children visiting Whiteman Park with their families can take a ride behind Ashley or one of the other engines.

Gould said the City of Swan supported publication of the book through a Swan Community Grant.

Ashley fans can look forward to many future stories in the series including Ashley and the Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow.

Other attractions to look out for on Ashley Day include bouncy castles, farm animals and bus rides.
