Another case of meningococcal in WA

AN ADULT is recovering in hospital after contracting the deadly meningococcal disease, the ninth case reported in WA so far this year.

The Department of Health said the patient has the C strain of the disease.

Of the cases detected in 2019, two have been serogroup B, three serogroup W and four serogroup C meningococcal infections.

A total of 41 cases were notified in WA in 2018. This was less than the 46 cases notified in 2017, but well above the long term average for annual cases.
