Beyondblue launch Get to Know Anxiety campaign to combat damaging attitudes

The research indicated half the population do not know basic facts about a condition that affects a quarter of the population.

Beyondblue recently relaunched its revamped Get To Know Anxiety campaign via TV, radio and online.

The survey of 1200 Australians revealed most people were aware of anxiety as a mental health condition, but damaging attitudes and discrimination remained.

Beyondblue chief Georgie Harman said she was encouraged to learn most of those interviewed recognised anxiety as a real condition.

“Anxiety is not just feeling stressed or worried; it is when these feelings don’t subside and are ongoing without any particular reason or cause,” she said.

“Everyone feels anxious from time to time, but for someone experiencing anxiety, these feelings can’t be easily controlled.”
