Bibbulmun Track events calender released

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

DAY walks, overnight hikes, women-only walks and children’s attractions feature in a new edition of events and guided walks along the world-renowned Bibbulmun Track.

The 2017 calender of events listed along the Kalamunda to Albany trail gives people a chance to experience the track in a way suited to their fitness, comfort and skill level.

Feedback suggests many walkers use Bibbulmun events to find other like-minded people to head off with on other walks, longer walks or even end-to-ends.

The calendar has day walks to encourage people to get outdoors together with themed events and challenges for pre-schoolers to teenagers.

Pub, Pumps and Pipes is a walk and history guide to Mundaring Weir with an expert from the National Trust, while Dr Dolittle Goes Bush and Camp Cooking for Kids provide events for children over the Easter school holiday.

There is a three-day expedition in July for teenagers to camp out, along with walking with mum or dad weekends for parents or grandparents, plus escapes for women with a Dandy Dwellingup Dames weekend in May or a Balingup Belles escape in September.

For those people planning a personal adventure, the Foundation hosts informative workshops to teach new skills in trip planning, navigation, hiking gear and food.

The less adventurous may wish to start with a Social Sunday Walk introduction led by trained volunteers.
