Carers asked for feedback on Carers Recognition Act review

Lynn GriersonHills Avon Valley Gazette

CARERS are asked to contribute to a review of the Carers Recognition Act 2004.

Community Services Minister Simone McGurk said the review will provide carers, services and related organisations with an opportunity to share advice on the best ways to recognise carers and the roles they provide.

The Act was last reviewed in 2008 and there are about 320,000 carers in Western Australia.

Carers are defined in the Act as people who provide ongoing unpaid care, support and assistance to a person with disability or chronic illness, including a mental illness, or who are frail.

The consultation paper is at https://www.communities.wa.gov.au until August 1 and the review will be completed by the end of the year.
