A not-for-profit group based in Baskerville, the centre has had plenty of requests from its members for computer classes. Until now, it has had the space to run classes but not the equipment or the available funds to purchase it.

Synergy chief information officer Alex Jones said the organisation was happy to know the computers, worth about $15,000, would be going to good use in the community.

‘In addition to helping people become more energy efficient, the donation of these computers means that our commitment to the community is able to show a tangible benefit,’ Mr Jones said.

Valley Learning Centre treasurer Graham Dore said the donation was greatly appreciated by its members.

‘Having these computers means that we can start up some computer classes next year for non-computer literate individuals like myself,’ Mr Dore said.

‘We would really like to thank Synergy for supporting our community because it means we can now teach residents how to get more out of their computers at home.’

He said the centre was now seeking the necessary screen monitors to attach to the computers and was hopeful that other businesses in the community could be able to assist.
