The Shire of Mundaring recently received the application for an Ericson S-64E Aircrane to be based at Woodlands Road.

But due to flight operational restrictions, transits from Jandakot Airport to a fire in the Perth Hills require a pathway off the coast before heading inland, resulting in extra delays in responding to fire emergencies.

The helicopter is specifically equipped for water bombing and bushfire fighting purposes and is contracted by DEFS to operate between November and April.

Stoneville and Parkerville Progress Association chairman Greg Jones said the association acknowledged the move would serve the greater good but the association would like the Shire to consider alternative locations for it.

‘Noise is one of the biggest issues,’ he said.

‘While we think it’s a good thing to have it in the Hills, there are other options for where it could be that will not affect residents.’

Public submissions on the proposal close with the Shire on August 27.
