Cycle path part of highway upgrade

Last week, a $12 million upgrade for Great Eastern Highway between Bilgoman Road and Mundaring was announced as part of a Federal contribution to WA roads.

Now the same section of road will get a cycling path as part of the State budget.

The cycleway is one of four projects in a $34.4 million funding allocation for Perth cycling infrastructure.

Swan Hills MP Frank Alban said he looked forward to the safety benefits this cycling infrastructure would bring to the Swan Hills region.

Mundaring is known as a hub of Perths Hills, attracting cyclists and drivers due to its picturesque location. The construction of dedicated cycling infrastructure will ensure our cyclists and roads are safer for all users, he said.

I look forward to the improvements these projects will bring for residents, visitors and workers, whether they drive or cycle.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott was in Perth recently to announce several grants, provided as part of a deal to compensate WA for its declining share of the GST.

Under the $499 million package, the Northlink WA project will receive an additional $138 million, $84 million for Tonkin Highway grade separation and $54 million for the Swan Valley bypass.

About $67 million has also been provided for an upgrade of Reid Highway, or 80 per cent of the overall cost.
